Potential Consequence The positive consequences of the implementation of the program focused on the increase in enrollment at Craiger University in the computer science department. Some unforeseen positive benefits are the increased enrollment in several other areas of the University once courses were also adjusted using Malcolm Gibson as the instructional designer for online courses. Malcolm became a full-time employee at Craiger University. Even though Craiger University was awarded the funding from the Preparing Tomorrow’s Technology Professionals there were some negative consequences that impacted the on-campus face to face instructional technology degree program. Increased enrollment meant increased course loads for instructors. Craiger University will have to implement a plan to hire more instructors or part-time adjuncts to maintain the levels of quality instruction promised. Students also were drawn to the certificate programs in place of the two and four-year degree programs and so some work now needs to be done to increase the need and desire for the two and four year programs otherwise Craiger’s increased enrollment in the new certificate program will be met with a decrease in other areas. Students have the option to work at their own pace. The information is not just available during a set class time and place, but it is available to reread and revisit as often as the student feels is necessary. Online teaching has the option for students to progress according to their own learning requirements and allows for courses to be completed more quickly than traditional classes. Keeping the students engaged and motivated is a concern that most instructors have when starting an online course.
