Sant (2000), Finding Forrester was the film selected for this discussion. The storyline for the film centers around two main characters, Forrester and Lamar. Forrester played by Sean Connery, is an eccentric, reclusive, Pulitzer prize winning novelist, living in a high-rise building in New York city. Forrester has not left his apartment in over a decade. His life centers around looking out a living room window, overlooking a basketball court, with binoculars.
Lamar, played by Rob Brown, is a young, black, gifted, athletic writing prodigy. A voracious reader, and talented basketball player. He lives with his brother and mother, a single parent, in a Brooklyn housing project. His personality shines, when he is on the basketball court, or writing

On a dare from his friends, to enter Forrester’s apartment and bring back a souvenir, this and a succession of events would change each of their lives forever. After entering the apartment, Lamar was surprised by Mr. Forrester. Fleeing the apartment, Lamar dropped his backpack on the living room floor. Lamar knew he had to get his backpack back. The next day, he returned to the concrete court below the window, and saw his backpack perched on the ledge above. A figure appeared in the window and tossed the backpack to the ground below. He was relieved to find his journals but surprised to find that the man in the apartment had taken the time to go through every single journal, writing notes, making corrections and suggestions on every page. Forrester recognized Lamar had a talent for writing far beyond his years, and welcomed the responsibility to mentor, inspire and mold him. It also gave Forrester a new lease on life, and he began to think critically and live creatively again. Forrester cherished Lamar’s company, it gave him purpose. Forrester made it clear to Lamar their friendship would continue under two conditions, promise to never tell anyone he knew him, and anything he wrote in the apartment, never left the …show more content…
My formative years of education were taught during a time when information was poured into your brain, and all you did was recall it and jot it down verbatim on your test paper. You never really got anything out of the class, except whether you passed or failed. Times have changed since I was in school, and what a difference a couple of decades makes. Teachers today challenge you, allowing you to take a stance on your beliefs and defend them intelligently. I welcome the feedback I have received since going back to school, from the majority of professors I have encountered. I never thought online education, which is the type of education I now prefer, could be so rewarding. You know the old saying it takes a village to raise a child. Well it takes a well-grounded on-line school, with committed faculty and staff to guide and champion a student to their ultimate goal, graduation.
