On January 23, 1973, a radical decision was made that would determine the fate of millions of people. In Texas, a young pregnant women argued that illegalizing abortion is unconstitutional. After a heated debate, the United States Supreme Court finally ruled that abortion is unconstitutional. Today, because of this one ruling, millions of potential lives have been destroyed, and because of this, it is necessary for the people of America to bond together to protest against these injustices and destroy the act legalizing this evil. Etched in the fourteenth amendment of the Constitution, it states that the state cannot “deny anyone life, liberty, or property, without due process of law” (Lieberman 23). For this reason, abortion supporters claim that women have the liberty to have abortions. Additionally, in the ninth amendment, it states that any liberty not explicitly written in the constitution should not be denied. For this reason, abortion, which is not clearly specified in the Constitution is constitutional according to those who are pro choice (Drucker 3). Hidden within the pages of the Constitution in the fourteenth amendment, it states that no person can be “deprived of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, without due process of law.” After the legalization of abortion in Roe vs. Wade, unborn were denied their constitutional right to life. Now, women are the ones to choose whether or not a child lives, when in reality, it is not their decision to make. It is not their life to terminate. With respect to the unborn’s rights, the unborn hold rights in other specific cases, such as inheriting property, and when an unborn loses their life, the murderer is charged with manslaughter (“Abortion” 3). Additionally, in the Preamble of the Declaration of Independence, it states that all men are “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Every day, thousands of children are denied their right to pursue happiness and the liberty to choose whether or not they want to live (Weiler 270).
