A High School Basketball Player Essay

Tracy was a high school basketball player that had a head on collision with another player in a basketball game. She went to school the next day and never told anybody about her symptoms of nausea, lightheadedness and blurred vision. Tracy knew that if she told her coach that she had a concussion she wouldn’t be able to play in the next game. So she kept silent and didn’t tell the coach or the athletic trainer about having a concussion. Tracy ended up passing out in the locker room after the game and was sent to the hospital. She didn’t realize that her life was going to be changed dramatically from not telling anybody of her concussion. Her symptoms of having headaches, nausea, concentrating, and dizziness worsen. Tracy had to go to the hospital and learn how to walk again because of her balance problem from the concussion. She had to miss most of her junior and senior year of high school and now Tracy encourages people to speak out if you have concussion like symptoms. Tracy now knows that,¨ it’s better to miss one game than the whole season.¨
A concussion is bruising to the brain from whiplash or an impact to the head that creates damage to nerves. In most cases of a concussion the symptoms start from headaches, hard to concentrate, feel tired, nausea or slow thinking. The definition of a concussion is a temporary unconsciousness caused by a blow to the head.
