“Babumoshai… zindagi badi honi chahiye lambi nahi…” a dialogue from the hindi film Anand is a favorite line of mine which translates roughly to: life is supposed to be big not long. It is with this vision and life experiences that have prepared me for a career in family medicine. Such a field requires genuine interest, dedication, a sense of empathy and the ability to communicate and relate to patients of all age groups. The bond I have with my family and my culture have instilled in me values of respect for all that I have transferred to every relationship throughout life and medical training. Passion for medicine led me to live in other countries and immerse myself into their cultures. Finding a common cause in different parts of the world …show more content…
Maarten and here in the States will be assets invaluable to this program. Experiencing varying clinical sites, serving diverse populations and immersing in different health care systems, helped me to successfully navigate this road to residency and challenged me. And it gave me an advantage. To be a physician that had the significant challenges in her own life that are necessary to connect with other human beings in an important way. These experiences provided me with the strong foundation: passion for medicine, strong interpersonal skills, dedication, diligence, patience, professionalism and my continuously adapting need for knowledge, which I will with me as an intern. I have also realized the importance of giving back to the community and I intend to practice in an area with excellent community outreach and where patients’ mental and social needs are addressed. I am applying to your residency program in family medicine because it is a well-rounded program with broad-based training, and a high level of responsibility that will prepare me to serve a diverse population. I also wish for a friendly and supportive environment where faculty, residents, and staff work together as a team. I look forward to starting my family medicine residency at your institution with enthusiasm and a willingness to work hard.
