Since the government is invading our privacy it’s like having them watching our every move and constantly looking through our photo’s, Facebook messages, and text messages. For example when the FBI wanted Apple to unlock a terrorist phone so that they could look at the text messages. Apple informed the FBI that if they unlock that phone then they would be forced to unlock all of the phones. If they did this then hackers or the government could get a hold of something they don't need to know about. The government need to stop invading our privacy because if something gets leaked it could cost the government a lot of money or ruin someone’s life. Massive amounts of data being collected are causing extremely high risks of identity theft. When …show more content…
Even though the FBI has found and stopped more terror attacks in the US that the NSA. Multiple terror attacks have been discovered and stopped before they could be carried out and possibly kill thousands of people. However, the NSA had nothing to do with these attacks being stopped. The NSA hasn’t been able to provide anyone any surveillance dragnet that shows them stopping any domestic attacks. The FBI has found and foiled more than the NSA so, this shows that the NSA is not a reliable agency. According to James Jay Carafano, PhD and Jessica Zuckerman, “ Since 9/11, today the terror attacks have gone up from 19 attacks to 40 attacks” (Carafano Phd and Zuckerman). Given these points, this means that the NSA, FBI, and government aren’t doing a good job with security and should have looked into the terrorists plans before they could be carried out. So the government needs to improve on ways to keep people safe and at the same time to respect their privacy. Many people believe that the government need to step up the security to keep their information safe by the government could easily leak the information or give it to another country. The government need to stop collecting massive amounts of data from some of the 7 billion people on this earth or the people could get all of their money stolen along with stuff that is need for important things such as taxes and things like that. In conclusion that government need to stop invading our privacy. The government need to stop trying to get access to our private information that they don’t need. They could possibly let hackers get it and the lives of millions of people would be

Everything up to a point is okay on how the United States has fought the war on terror. If the focus was on how to stop terrorism from getting over to the United States or where this all started from, the success would be great. Instead, America is only protecting the U.S. and only being concerned about individual safety. Security after 9/11 is not as punctual as it was before 9/11. America is in more danger than before 9/11 because tightening the rules, restrictions and people on the no fly list for example, makes for different ways of thinking about how to overcome security and other obstacles set in place.…

The naysayers stated that the Patriot act has only foiled 1 actual terrorist plot, when in reality it has stopped dozens of sleeper cells before they ever even got to the phase of planning an actual attack. The American Patriot act is a leading solution to this problem of terrorism even with our allies overseas, Britain has been falling behind in terrorist prevention defense mechanisms such as the patriot act and that is why they have faced so many more fatal incidents after 9-11. “The world is more dangerous than it used to be: technological changes have made it easier to build, miniaturize and conceal dangerous weapons, as a result of which terrorists can launch more devastating attacks today than they have in the past. Defensive technologies have not kept up.” If defensive technologies like the PRISM software are not kept up to date and powerful then we could face catastrophes unlike any we have ever seen before, if we don’t expand our defensive while the terrorist expand their offense then when they strike we will not be prepared.…

After reading the article Domestic Intelligence Today: More Security but less Liberty? I now look at the government a different way. I can see why people would have wanted to establish something similar to the British MI-5 after the attacks of 9/11. The MI-5 collects and analyzes domestic intelligence. Many believe it would not work in this county because Great Britain is a smaller more centralized country that has fewer police forces.…

This is just not true. A report from the nonprofit journalism organization ProPublica debunked this claim in an article written by Justin Elliott, and Theodoric Meyer. In their article: “Claim on “Attacks Thwarted” by NSA Spreads, Despite Lack of Evidence” both Mr. Elliott and Meyer found that these claims had little to no basis in reality and that NSA Chief Keith Alexander at a tech securities conference held in Las Vagus in July 2013 made this claim with no evidence. He simply stated this claim during his slide presentation, and later repeated this claim in a letter to NSA employees, which claimed that PRISM metadata surveillance “contributed to keeping the U.S. and its allies safe from 54 terrorist plots.” (Alexander).…

" This topic is well chosen as it is one of hot debate in America. This question first arose in my life a couple of years ago when Edward Snowden released his first bit of information. This was the shell shock that woke America from its somewhat dormant distrust of the government. It was a jaw dropping news headline, “With a top-secret court order, the NSA collected the telephone records from millions of Verizon customers.” This revelation brought back the age old debate of just how far government infringements on our privacy should be allowed to go. Acting as the voice of the Government, Richard Ledgett came on TED talks to discuss what Edward Snowden had said in his own TED talk.…

The United States goal is to track all of the world’s citizens in order to prevent crimes, but in doing so commits the crime of stealing one’s right to privacy. The government can use this information to determine things like your access to government buildings. 6 The future of surveillance in the US, is a future in which citizens aren’t allowed the same freedoms that they have grown up with. Being an American citizen, means being entitled to certain rights such as a right to be protected from unreasonable search and seizure, by allowing the government to expand its surveillance capabilities to all American citizens, those same citizens lose some of their…

Kick The Habit If you place “privacy” on one side of the balance, and “security” on the other side, will they be equal? Or would one kick the beam? Would you like to have all your personal information laid out for the eyes of an officer for the sake of yours and others’ security? How would you feel if you enter a job interview knowing that the interviewer has a complete background check about you in his files? “Privacy” is defined as one’s right to keep personal information private.…

Although others may not see it this way, they feel the government should be given access only by permission through citizens. In addition the Fourth Amendment should be able to protect our information from federal law, even if our personal information is available. On another note, the only reason the government should have personal access is if their were suspicious activity. For example, this statement explains how “...the Constitution's Fourth Amendment, designed to guard against unreasonable searches and seizures, should impede the government's access to personal data--even if that information is available in the commercial sphere. Today’s internet has become an integral part of our daily lives. It changed the world in so many positive ways, but it has also a negative side to it. The negative issues that we are facing today with internet are our online privacy and data breaches. Recently, many people were divided in terms of their strong views about the importance of privacy and the exchange “between security needs and personal privacy” (Rainie & Maniam, 2016) as millions of Americans were also affected by online threats and privacy breaches and at the same time concerned with our security. The focus has been on government monitoring, although there are some other significant issues and concerns about how industries use our data.…

Since the dawn of sending and receiving messages, people have had a need for keeping the information they send out to remain private and out of the hands of others. This need for security is the reason the field of cryptography was developed, from its early stages of moving letters around in words to the present use of computer programming to keep certain data safe. Cryptography is the reason we can securely use many day to day applications, but with all these developments come issues of unwanted government surveillance that threatens the privacy of citizens. These issues may be detrimental to the privacy of the information sent and received but cryptography is here to stay as a necessary means of passing that information from one party to another.…
