Dear Principal, Hot for lava and hard for beds! We should be allowed to take a trip to the Lava Beds. The Lava Beds are located in northeastern California and are the largest formed from volcano eruptions. It is also known as California’s “best kept secret” because of its location. We should go to the Lava Beds because of education, features, exercise and leisure. A visit to the lava beds would provide a significant history lesson. The history, landscape, and findings would be beneficial to students who have an interest in history, specifically individuals who would like to study geology, archaeology and even paleontology. Due to their hidden nature, the caves do not attract as many tourists in comparison to more notorious historical sites such as Yosemite National Park, but not all children get to experience an interesting or beneficial time. However, tours of the caves do not have to be scheduled and exploring the caves would give insight for further study by collecting data and noting findings. According to research, there have been over 700 caves founded in the area of the Lava Bed National Monument. Because of the nature of the area, it is important for explorers or students to dress appropriately paying close attention to safety. Dress attire should be comfortable and able to withstand to notable average temperatures of fifty-five degrees. Even though the temperature is on the cool side, students could still have an interesting time because most schools require…
On Tuesday night, December 8th of 2015. I waited impatiently by the Great Hall of the CCNY Shepard Hall. Seven twenty-three pm I looked at the clock on my phone. Small groups of people starts to enter the open door to the Great hall. Confusingly, I walk to the door and pick up the program note to CCNY choral concert. I went to the seating area and pick the row at the back. When everyone gathered, a man caught everyone’s attention, Ira Spaulding, introduced himself as the conductor of the…
His melding of the song’s lyrics with jocular remarks perfectly embodies the mixing and matching that occurs in jazz performances. Armstrong’s comments on his makeup and how hard the pianist is playing relax the atmosphere and sustain my attention on what he is saying. The instrumental play reacts to what he is saying, with his voice acting as a conductor, pulling the drums, bass, piano, trombone, and finally clarinet into playing. It seems that a lot of call and response is going on in this…
Track 5: The Glamorous Life Sheila E., The Glamorous Life One of the most significant outcomes of the Sunset Sound sessions was an album for Sheila Escovedo, a young Latin with well-honed percussion skills. She was the daughter of a professional backing player and had been introduced to Prince by Carlos Santana. With some considerable coaxing, Prince got Sheila to take a stab at the mic. Following a first, successful collaboration on “Erotic City,” Prince pulled her into the studio with a pile…
years how passionate I am about music, but even more specifically, I am passionate about singing. Ever since I was a child I loved to sing, however, I have not always been a good singer. With talent, there is always practice and learning that has been involved. In light of that, I am going to explain to you the things that lead up to being a vocal major, what you do as a vocal major, and after you have graduated what you can do with it. Before deciding to be a vocal major, you want to have a…
Pointers to Remember Posture Posture is the most important factor to consider when singing, be it with a group or alone. Stand or sit comfortably upright with relaxed tongue, jaw, neck, shoulders, spine and stomach. Have a checklist initially and in a while it should come to you naturally. Make sure your spinal chord is kept straight. Having a good posture is not only important in singing. It is important for your daily life as well. Having a good posture will keep back, neck and joint pain…
Mount Baker is located in Whatcom County, Washington. This mountain has the highest summit in the Northern Cascades. It is the only U.S. volcano in the Cascade Range. the Muckleshoot and Cowlitz. Its current name was given to it by George Vancouver. It was named after Admiral Peter Rainier. It was officially named a national park on March 2, 1899 by President William Mckinley. Mount Rainier was the fifth national park that was designated by congress, and they dedicated it for “the benefit and enjoyment of the people”. In 1870 Mount Rainier’s first hotel, Longhire Springs, was built. In 1962 the park became the training ground for the american expedition to…
Nine, the age I was when my fascination with golf began. I still do not know why I so desperately wanted to golf, but I do know that I was determined to learn. That summer between fourth and fifth grade, I was registered for a day camp by my mother, who was confused by my new interest, though supportive nonetheless. Every day, for three weeks, I would arrive at the golf course early in the morning, eager to play and equipped with my lustrous deep red set of metallic clubs. We were divided into…
In the United States, we have one of the lowest education rates in the world. We are behind countries like China and Japan. In New York State especially, we have a system called Common Core. Common Core is a system that provides clear and consistent learning goals to to help students prepare for college, career and life. In kindergarden, kids have to take tests and fill in bubbles on answer sheets and when they get to high school, they have to take Regent examinations which is a test that New…
