    Cultural Interview Paper

For this paper I chose to interview a friend of mine, a former co-worker, Ramesh. We worked together several years ago at Wal-Mart. I would spend my breaks with him and his wife. His culture is very interesting to me as well as his opinion of his home culture. He has lived in America for many years, he moved here with his new wife as a young man to go to college. Ramesh is from a very wealthy Hindu family in south India, his father is the prince over a territory there. He moved here with his wife in the early 1970’s. He spoke of the beautiful surroundings and the lush gardens his mother had that had a small creek running though it, a rare sight in the desert. He described the heat and how the temperature was always like American summers, even hotter sometimes. Ramesh described the living conditions of the less well off as very harsh. He remembers India always being at war during his youth. The poor were very poor and health care was not a common thing. Many people became very sick and even died because of this. He told a story of how his wife’s uncle was killed just a short distance from her house by gorilla soldiers. As a child he played there at the palace where his father was prince. He played cricket with his friends; this is a game like American baseball. Because his father was a prince he was expected to behave a certain way and while he did not have responsibilities like those of a typical youth, like chores and cleaning his room, he had other responsibilities and…

My voice, my throat was on fire. I rushed to the sink and drank directly from it. I know it's gross but it was the only way. There was no wine…
