Antioxidants
Substances that neutralize free radicals. Vitamin A,C and E and beta-carotene are antioxidants.
Oxidation
The process during which oxygen combines with other molecules.
Free Radicals
Unstable oxygen-containing molecules that can damage the cells of the body and possibly contribute to the increased risk of chronic diseases.

A disease that affects the macula of the retina, causing blurry vision.

results in eating too many carenoids can cause nonthreatening conditions. This can result in orange tinged skin, particulary in the palms and soles of the feet.
