What does the alcohol and drugs policy say regarding drugs of abuse?

- You must not attempt to report for duty whilst under the influence of Alcohol and Drugs (if a drug is deemed illegal by law it is not tolerated on the Railway; A drug of abuse can also extend to misuse of other drugs such as anti-depressants, etc)



- You must not drink alcohol or take drugs of abuse while on duty.



- You must not have any drug of abuse with you whilst on railway property.



- If you are charged by the police with a drink or drugs related offence, you must tell your manager/supervisor immediately when you next report for duty and put details in writing.



- If you have a drink or drug related problem you must report it immediately and you will be dealt with as compassionately as possible. You will not be treated with such compassion if you only state your problem as you are going for a med screening.

What are the rules regarding prescription drugs?

You must inform your doctor/pharmacist that you work in a safety critical role and ask if any prescribed drugs will affect your ability to work.



You should tell your DRM about any drugs you are taking as soon as possible.

What are the 'Hidden Rules'

The Hidden Rules State...



- You must have at least 12 hours rest between safety critical turns and at least 8 hours rest for non safety critical turns.



- Work no longer than 12 hours in any one shift



- Work no longer than 72 hours in a 7 day period



- Not work more than 13 consecutive days in any 14 day period.

What is the purpose of the MFA process?

It is used to monitor the attendance levels of all GTR staff. If anyone is falling below the acceptable level then the MFA process will be triggered.

- 10 days total or 5 instances of sickness in any 52 week period.
