Which basically goes against all logical laws of economics. This system is unsustainable, because it comes from the basic ideas that all natural resources are unlimited. So future fashion will probably be more expensive, but you have to look at it this way in my opinion: do you want the workers of your T-shirt to be paid honestly and that the cotton used for the shirt has been produced ecologically friendly? In my opinion, it is nonsense to claim that sustainable fashion in any case will be more expensive, because ‘sustainable’ is not a product. It is just a way to approach fashion. Especially for Europe, I think we will learn a lot from countries like Denmark, where the government has such a high tax policy that nobody is able to get extremely rich, but also not able to get extremely poor. I feel this will increase our social awareness and make us happier in the long run. Also on a social level there will be more attention to production. I feel in 20 years from now, all production will be locally again. Luxury goods will be produced in Italy, Lace in the Netherlands, wool-knits in the UK. Every country has its own specialty which it uses for its own benefit, the focus will not be on mass-production and profit anymore but on quality, expertise and sustainability. In this way production is getting very personal and connected to culture. Products are identifiable and typical for the country what leads to pride, pride for the product, pride for the nation, new chauvinism. Also for Europe, I feel there will be more cultural unity maybe even through a universal language. On the other hand there will also be a world unity rather than a ‘globalised’ world. I think in 20 years from now we should strive for a universal language and a monetary unit. Borders disappear and people will have the same opportunities everywhere, from the middle of Africa to the big cities like New York. Off course this is probably too utopic but I truly believe in 20 years from now the world will be way more socially
