Dhaka Zoo is the largest zoo in the Country. It is situated at Mirpur-2 in Dhaka. Because of the position and vastness of Dhaka Zoo, this zoo is pronounced as the National Zoo of Bangladesh. Dhaka Zoo is controlled by the Ministry of Fishery and Livestock of Bangladesh. Starting the initiative in 1964 at the premise of High Court, the authority is able to move this zoological park in the present place in 1974 with 186 acres of land including two lakes of about 13 hectors. Because of some shortcomings such as mismanagement and frequent deaths of rare animals Dhaka zoo has started to loss its appeal. But recently government has taken vital steps to manage the discipline of Dhaka Zoo and to bring people back. Now there are about 2,160 in 157 species in the Dhaka Zoo. Of them 57 species are mammals, including elephant, Royal Bengal tiger, lion, cheetah, rhinoceros, zebra, monkey, chimpanzee, and hippo. There are 61 species of birds, 11 species of reptiles, including snakes and crocodiles, and 28 species of fish. In addition, some exceptional and interesting animals such as the rhea, peacock, zebra, elephant, African grey parrot, water buck, impala, emu, baboon, chimpanzee, grail, black bear, tapir, mandrill, and estuarine crocodile offer bonus amusement to the visitors. Officials of Dhaka
