If a society has not been registered with the Registry of Societies, it is considered a triad or secret society, as is commonly referred to as a gang. In general, there are 2 types of gangs in Singapore: traditional and street gang. However, we will focus primarily on the street gangs as they are the ones creating the law and order problems presently. Youths who have problems communicating with their parents, low self-esteem and lack a sense of purpose in life tend to hang out at public places such as void decks, street soccer and basketball courts and LAN game centres instead of going home at night. These youths seek acceptance and recognition from other people. They are therefore easily susceptible and vulnerable to recruitment by gang members who befriended them. Many a time, gangs offer a false sense of meeting their
