The Prophet Zechariah prophesied during the reign of the Persian King Darius, who ruled the Persian Empire from 522 BC – 486 BC. Zechariah was not only a prophet, but a priest as well (Hays, 2010, p. 345). He ministered about the promises of Yahweh, and encouraged the people that salvation and restoration were on their way, if the people would repent and obey Yahweh (Hays, 2010, pp. 345-346). Zechariah’s purpose was to attempt to rekindle a spiritual fire in the hearts of the nation (Jackson, 2017). In addition, Malachi 3:1a expresses “A messenger would prepare the way for the Messiah” and was fulfilled in Matthew 11: 10-11. The prophecy of Malachi 3:1b “the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple”, was fulfilled in Matthew 21:12, “And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple. Malachi 3:1c “the messenger of the covenant” is fulfilled in Luke 4:43, “I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.” The Messiah was sent to as the messenger of the new covenant. Lastly, the Messianic prophecy in Malachi 4:6, “He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse” was fulfilled in Luke 1:16-17 “And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God.and Mark 1:3-5, “The Messiah's forerunner would turn many to
