William Henry Gates IIi Life And Legacy Essay
William Henry Gates III, also known as Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle Washington. His father was William Gates II and, his mother was Mary Gates. Gates had two sisters Kristianne and Libby. Gates attended The Lakeside School in Seattle, he scored a 1590 out of 1600 on his SAT and attended Harvard University in Cambridge Massachusetts. In the summer of 1974 Gates dropped out of Harvard and went to work at Honeywell in Boston with Paul Allen.
Gates and Allen got a contract from Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems (MITS) in 1975. They went to New Mexico where MITS was based to show the CEO the code they had written for The Altair, MITS new computer. The CEO at MITS loved the code and decided to license it to Gates and Allen. In 1975 Gates and Allen formed MicroSoft. The name was a combination of Microcomputer and Software.
Later that year Gates appointed himself CEO of MicroSoft. Later the name MicroSoft was changed to the name of Microsoft. Microsoft was founded in New Mexico. While on tour showing Basic, a tape was stolen and then pirated on a national scale, which prompted Gates to write a letter to hobbyists titled “An Open Letter to Hobbyists.” It read,
