In Nigeria, the famous film industry, Nollywood, is helping to create one million jobs and fifty films a week. Since so many Nigerians are involved in the business, it is important for the industry to make a tremendous profit to support its workers. It is reported that roughly, “80% of Nigerian men prefer their women to be white rather than black” (author- if you don’t find the author from this website do the website title). When so many men prefer white women, the entertainment industry pleases the majority of the community by hiring mostly white actresses. Several Nigerian actresses have confronted the public and confessed that they have bleached their skin- explain why they do this. Famous names like Iyabo Ojo, Tayo Sob, and Halima Abubakar are just a few of the ladies who publicly confessed (cite this info). As an effect of Nigerian superstars bleaching their skin, there has been an increase in the percentage of women that use bleach on their skin. According to the World Health Organization, 77 percent of Nigerian women — the highest percentage in the world — use skin-lightening products on a regular basis (citation). In America, Hollywood is seen as a profitable business that creates a glamorous and wealthy life for its actors. Currently in 2016, many countries are starting to allow women to take job opportunities that have been only given to men for decades. As an effect of this, Nigeria and America have women representing their countries in international relations. Nigeria is the 38th largest exporter in the world and relies on their agriculture and businesses to anchor the country (source). Nigeria’s main trading partners are the United States of America and the United Kingdom (source). Both of these countries are made up of primarily white people whom are the purchasers of Nigeria’s exports. Nigeria favors white women in world relations because by having white women representing the nation, other countries will feel more comfortable. These countries will feel more comfortable by interacting with white women because often black women are seen as unapproachable in different cultures. This can be demonstrated by a remark made by a professor, "when you 're in an elevator or walking behind somebody and you feel like you have to perform to make them feel safe, it 's like apologizing for your existence” (Author). In addition, both of these countries are known to encourage diversity, and by seeing white women in world relations, many can conclude that Nigeria has evolved from their pre-colonial days when diversity was non-existent.
