A child is a precious gift a parent never wants to let go. Children change a mother and father’s life in ways that seem unimaginable. However, children are not easy to raise and are dependent when they are born. Children are incapable of taking care of themselves, which is why the parents play such an important role in the growth and development of a child. When a child is born the mother receives maternity leave, but what does the father receive? Maternity leave is a time period that mothers take off after having or adopting a child. This is tremendous for mothers, but most companies do not provide paternity leave. Paternity leave is very similar to maternity leave because it is time fathers take off at birth or adoption of a child. However, time off for fathers is rarely paid time off (“Paternity Leave”). Mothers and fathers both create a special bond with their children that will last a life time. The bond starts the day the child enters the Earth. This is where the problem occurs, as soon as a child is born maternity leave begins and the father usually has a few days with the child depending on how much time he took off. Nonetheless, raising a kid is very expensive, which limits the time the father and mother has off of work. With most mothers receiving a minimum of six weeks they have a special bond with the child that the father does not have. They are with the child from birth, where the child is just now becoming a part of the real world. Meanwhile, fathers have a few days off and then begin work again as if their life had not changed dramatically.
