Dear Wage and Hour Division:
I am a Child and Family Studies major, and I am writing to express my concern about the amount of maternity leave and the pay provided to new mothers and fathers in the United States. I am aware of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitling employees to take twelve weeks of unpaid, job protected leave. Also, for some families, they may be given short-term disability for only six weeks.
Unfortunately, not everyone is eligible for the twelve weeks of unpaid leave. To receive leave, an employee must have been at
