The high school graduation rate in America hit 82 percent in the year 2013-14 and has continued to rise. The United States Government funds 14,000 public elementary and secondary school districts schools, spending about 620 billion dollars a year. This is providing free education for children in America, allowing impoverished children to get the education they need to succeed. Education gives people the skills needed to survive as an adult in the world. These skills include literacy, numeracy, the ability to communicate, complete tasks, and work with others. However, education also benefits children in less tangible ways. As Nelson Mandela famously proclaimed, "Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world," and the America I believe in provides this critical education. …show more content…
People in America have freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of religion, the right to a speedy and public trial, and much ore. We have the right to speak and circulate opinions without censorship or restraint from the government and the right to a speedy and public trial, while other countries strictly censor their citizens. For example, in Etritrea, only state news media are allowed to operate; journalists have no editorial freedom and they are given instructions on how to cover events. Any journalist expected of sending information out of the country is called a "security threat" and thrown into prison without charge or trial.
