One of my favorite retailers has to be Urban Outfitters. I definitely find myself making a lot of purchases through them whether it be home décor, clothes, cosmetics, or just small gifts for a friend. When someone mentions Urban Outfitters, I think “modern”, “cool”, “trustworthy”, and “accessible”. UO is not only an online retailer, but a brick-and-mortar as well. More recently, one way I feel that they are able to pull people in is with their new loyalty program.…

The pressure comes as consumer tastes are changing. Instead of wandering through stores and making impulse purchases, shoppers use their mobile phones and computers to research prices and cherry-pick promotions, sticking to shopping lists rather than splurging on unneeded items. Even discount retailers are finding it harder to boost sales by lowering prices as many low-income consumers struggle to afford the basics regardless of the price. This is an on-going problem and it has currently affected majority of retail stores.…

So far, this project has shown that the shelf availability has increased by 5.7% to 93%. The Multi Channel Strategy now allocates a broader selection of products that are exclusively on Wal-Mart’s online store, to then promote online shopping, reacting to the booming online shopping market, like Amazon.com. These strategies are new, so it is hard to see the outcome, but so far it seems like these implementations have made a good impact on the company. Wal-Mart differentiated itself from the startup by using EDLP, and should continue to use this pricing strategy. Wal-Mart stores are known for its low prices, and redefining the company by changing the prices and qualities of its products (like implementing a hi-lo pricing strategy) would be a long and difficult thing to do, and a majority of customers would not be happy with the change.…

An important factor to consider is the industry costs, which is something that encourages the competition to reduce prices to gain the market.
