There are always controversies being developed over specific topics that have many different opinions and outlooks on them. One topic that receives a lot of recognition is “Are genetically modified foods safe to eat” because people lack knowledge of what genetically modified organisms are and how they can affect an individual 's health. A GMO is a plant, microorganism or other organism whose genetic makeup has been modified using recombinant DNA methods, such as gene splicing, gene modification or transgenic technology. Genetic engineering of organisms began in the 1970s with the ability of scientists to clone genes and insert them in bacteria. This science

For example, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine tried to spread a message to the public concerning genetically modified foods. This company was concerned with health risks that were included within many types of foods. Also, they stated, “Several animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with genetically modified food, including fertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, insulin regulation and changes in major organs.” The genetically modified foods and disease portray relationship together. In the recent years, more doctors have been prescribing GM-free diets. For example, Dr. Amy Dean, a Michigan medicine specialist, recommends patients to eat strictly non-genetically modified foods. Another doctor that mentions GMO induced foods was John Boyles, who said “ I used to test for soy allergies all the time, but now that soy is genetically engineered, it is so dangerous that I tell people never to eat it.” Clearly, foods that have GMOs aren’t safe but other critics may create a controversy to express their opinions that genetically modified foods are safe to eat. The human gut is most susceptible to the potential dangers of GMO consumption. Bt toxin, which is produced by GMO induced corn, has been shown to significantly alter immune function in mice and may cause disruption with the immune function gut. There are definitely gaps in the research about many foods that have modified genes. Many foods that are produced and sold are not 100% natural. The process of breeding crops and animals have been around for many years. Experts don’t have enough research to say whether or not GM food are safe, but they have been around for a long time and people don 't become ill. Most foods are modified and people don 't worry about how it 's produced, as long as it doesn 't harm them. These controversies have been written and explain by doctors and researchers that have been around patients who are worried about the effect that GMO may have on them. These writers seem to appeal to the audience because they are proving events and experiments that have been happened in the past. These publishers are experienced with the topic and are motivated to find as much information about GM food. Many of the facts that were presented in the research by the doctors that have fluent in the field came from experiments that were conducted over the years. The positions that is more convincing, in my opinion, is that GMOs are safe and any food that genetically modified is safe as well. The reason behind this is because people eat food that is modified on a
