The Importance Of Soccer In My Life

Improved Essays
I have played soccer for most of my life, however at the age of 17, I wasn’t as good as I wanted to be. I wasn’t as small or fast as I was a few years before. I had gained some weight and slowed down a lot. I was going to have to become a lot more skillful since I could no longer out run my opponents. First of all, you would think that all the years that my team had been together, we would be the best team in the league, but that was not the case. We were a group of skillful players that couldn’t work together. I couldn’t stay off the bench, due to my lack of conditioning and skill. I couldn’t stand not playing the game I love and I knew something had to change. To begin with, I had to work a lot harder to increase certain aspects of my game to make up for where I lacked. Since I wasn’t as fast as I used to be, I had to become way more technical. I went to the soccer fields every day after school to practice. On the days my team had practice, I was there an hour early and I stayed an hour after everyone left. Then I had to do something about my speed. I was reluctant to go to the last team get-together of the season, as I thought everyone was mad at me. When I arrived, I was surprised that no one was mad at me for losing the game. Although we didn’t go all the way to the Championship to get the trophy, we made it further than anyone expected. We overcame our weaknesses and left it all out on the field.
To sum up, I wasn’t the hero in this story and my team didn’t win any trophy, but I learned something that season. You don’t win every time, but that doesn’t mean you give up. Although I had so many weakness, I worked day in and day out to improve myself. This experience taught me perseverance and determination. I also learned that if you want something, you have to work hard for it. Nothing in life comes

During those times I realized that I am built for this. It was during the hard times that I thought about all of my failures in life. All the times I missed notes, missed baskets, or didn’t hit the ball over the net. Not getting to play was the first problem that had struck me. I may have not been the best on the team, but when we were beating an opposing team by ten points and I was still sitting on the bench, I lost self confidence.
