One day after school my small group of friends and I were playing football. The new kid from the philippines named Ethan wanted to play. Everyone was quick to judge Ethan. He was teased about his clothes and his lack of Knowledge about football. I thought to myself “what would Benny do?”, I immediately told my friends to stop and to just let him participate. Ethan picked up the game quickly. It didn’t take that long for ethan to become one of the guys. Although Benny is just a fictional character from a kids film, he still manages a way to impact my life drastically.
As i got older I started to invest my time into basketball. Heading into my early adolescence Kobe Bryant a professional basketball player became my role model and idol. When my coach called me in to his office to talk after a 3 hour Saturday practice, he articulated to me that I would barely play this season. My hard work would acquire me 20 minutes of playing time for the entire year. I was confused as to why I received no playing time. At one point I wanted to quit and never pick up a basketball. An interview on TNT struck my attention, Marv Albert was interviewing Kobe and kobe was articulating that when he fails he doesn't quit, he tries again until he succeeds. I took this to heart and made it a goal to be a starter next season. Day after day, I would spend my summer at the mills courts. I never missed an open gym or a summer league game. By the time october came around I was not only physically stronger I was mentally.strong as well. That season I came in as a completely different player, leading the team in blocks and rebound I earned a starting spot on the Junior varsity team. Kobe Bryant taught me how to practice and to never give up, no matter how hard you
