Personal Narrative: A Thousand Experiences

A Thousand Experiences Throughout life, individuals face different obstacles and struggles; my obstacle was my tendency to be shy. For example, when I was faced with social pressures like speaking in front of a class for a presentation, or meeting new people, I would be a nervous wreck. My palms would sweat, my voice would tremble, and it took all the strength I could muster to overcome my irrational fears. I only had a small, albeit close knit group of friends due to my introverted ways. However, that all changed when I joined the One Act team to perform A Thousand Cranes at the start of my sophomore year. I was homeschooled until the second semester of fourth grade, and although I had sometimes went on a few scattered field trips with other homeschooled kids, I ultimately missed out on the fundamental …show more content…
We were all glad to have placed well, but were overall disappointed in losing first place by one measly point. Setting the mood for remembering our countless failures and long practices, the seniors went around the group, giving each member of the team their own little speech. When they got to me, every single senior noted how much I had changed over the season. Listening to them recount the season to me, it truly hit me how different I was compared to the beginning of the season. Senior speeches had opened a book of memories for me. Reminiscing back on the beginning of the season, I could see how terrified I had been. Although I was just in the ensemble, the pressure was still on my shoulders to perform to my best ability. Learning the dances and poses for A Thousand Cranes, I had followed the seniors exactly, right down to the way they curled their fingers or pointed their toes.
