Vision
The presence of vision is a powerful enabler. (Dees, 2013) It is the leader’s responsibility to craft and cast such vision, and to keep it before his team. (Dees, 2013) It is a clear “condition setter.” (Dees, 2013) This vision provides a clear direction for employees to follow, allowing them to see the end result that they are working towards. If there is no clear vision, it is then up to leadership to develop a plan that everyone will get behind. When there is no vision, it can cause serious problems with the cohesiveness and production within an organization. A recent study of law enforcement officers found that when field level supervisors are engaged in proactive activities, the volume of proactive activities by the officers they supervise almost doubles (Johnson, 2015.) This is true during the day to day operations of the organization, as well as and likely more so when the organization finds itself in the midst of a crisis.
