I had several Supervisor with different value and style. As a new graduate nurse, my medical surgical Supervisor was strict and had an autocratic leadership style. She didactic her leadership using her authority position. She made decision without any input from staff members which created low morale among staff members and department. It was difficult to grow or enhance skills with no mentor opportunity. I shared my desire to transfer to labor and delivery and very eager to learn to my Supervisor; I was informed by my Supervisor I was not competent to transfer and denied. This really changed my desire to learn more in the labor and delivery field and I transferred from that department within two weeks. I have learned how not to treat staff members and mentor is key in retaining staff. …show more content…
As leaders, must be able to communicate the importance of the work each individual person is doing and how it fits into the overall mission of the organization. “A good leader will be able to find key qualities of each person in their organization that will help move the organization forward. Great leaders know how to produce and sustain good followership. They are watchful, responsive, and proactively engaged in maintaining good followership” (Cruz, 2014, p.48).
It is important for the leader to mentor and inspire others because it will help each employee to make sure all their work lives out the mission of the organization. They will also be more successful in accomplishing the organization’s goals if they feel valued for their work and believe they are also making a difference, and that their vocation is aligned with their leaders and the
