Heart to Heart Love with Villalobos
Karen Davison once said, "Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever." Villalobos is a rescue center with a goal to save all pit bulls until there is no more. Villalobos is located in New Orleans and originally created in Los Angeles. This rescue center is home to more than 100 dogs and can reach up to 300 at points. The non-profit organization also gives the opportunity of jobs for parolees. Villalobos Rescue Center is a non-profit pit bull rescue that you should raise awareness and money for, because they rescue dogs for shelter and rehabilitation, provide jobs and volunteer hours for parolees, and they provide many adoptable dogs for loving families.

Greenwood stated "As anyone who's watched Pit Bulls and Parolees knows, Villalobos is a place where both people and animals with rough starts can get their second chances" (Greenwood). Villalobos offers second chances to pit bulls and parolees. They exceed limits and maintain a clean environment for the dogs. They go through lots of food, cleaning of the kennels and daily maintenance. Many volunteers come to help with all the work at Villalobos, but it still is not enough. The article "Tia Maria Torres" stated "Here the pit bulls and their parolee handlers get a second chance. For some, it's the last chance. In a city where nearly 70 percent of shelter dogs are pit bulls, lucky ones like Moose are rescued and retrained by Torres and now appear in music videos with the likes of J-Lo"(Horton). This shows that when a pit bull gets that chance to be rehabilitated, they could have a great life. They could be loved instead of abused with your help. At Villalobos, it is stated "Each and EVERY dog taken in, gets spayed or neutered, and given any medical treatment necessary. We work patiently to re-acclimatize fearful dogs to the loving care of a human, so that they may eventually be adopted"(About Us). Donating money will help Villalobos with the costs of the medical bills and treatment for the pit bulls. Once they are treated, they will live a happier life and may even make someone like you happy. Within the streets of New Orleans, dogs could be fighters, as stated, "The rehabilitation of even one fighting dog is a long and uncertain project. First comes the medical care...mental condition"(Ball 1). Raising awareness will show that there is hope to help these dogs and to stop the abuse and fights between this breed. Pitbulls are loving dogs and Villalobos is moving forward to change

Even if the shelter does decide to continue to not adopt out Pit Bulls, there are other options than euthanization. For instance, there are numerous rescue centers that will take in dogs deemed ‘vicious,’ like Pits Bulls, to keep them from being killed. One of these rescue centers is located in North Carolina. Fortitudine Vincimus Rescue Center, also known as “The Fort” was founded by Jake Gardner in 2012. According to Judi Brinegar’s article (2014), “Pit Bull Rescue Seeks Help,” “The Fort" is a nonprofit, no-kill rescue dedicated to alleviating the suffering of all animals, in particular the American Pit Bull Terrier”(Brinegar, para. 2).…

Despite how long Pit Bulls have been around, stories of Pit Bull attacks didn’t begin to pick up steam until the 1980s. This happens to coincide with the reemergence of dog fighting in the United States ( Liddle, 4). So the point on whether the dog breed is necessarily good or bad is still debatable in some cases. From knowing their history of fighting, having the genetic line of fighting, and the attack rates to knowing that the breed is family safe and having emotions to show the caring of the…

A worker from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals was quoted saying they agree that pit bulls inherit violence (136). Quoting one person from the organization is unreliable because she could be speaking from an experience which would not be a credible argument. One worker cannot represent the entire organization. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals also support animal rights, which means they would support the effort of trying to help the breed. The town of Rabbit Hash in Kentucky also agrees with helping pit bulls.…

Most myths regarding pit bulls are based in fear, and almost all of them are proven fallacies. Pit bulls are not the only breed of dog that can have negative, aggressive tendencies based on its upbringing and other circumstances, but certainly an attack on an animal or a person by a pit bull is much more likely to be reported on the news, resulting in the creation of a bad reputation for pit bulls everywhere. Unfortunately, it is this belief that has caused some areas to put out bans on the entire breed. Not until people realize that any animal, even a pit bull, can be a very gentle, kind-hearted partner for life simply by raising the animal in the correct way, will pit bulls finally be rid of the negative and unfair reputation surrounding their…

These dogs are singled out to be restrained or banned and are put to death just for their breed. In Lafayette, Louisiana, two men were arrested for dog fighting and fifty-seven pit bulls were confiscated. Some of the confiscated dogs had scars from fighting, and just because of the breed’s reputation, all of the dogs were considered dangerous.…
