Pit Bulls
Do you think Pitbulls are vicious or threatening? Apparently many people do. Lately, a ban has been placed, forbidding Pit Bulls to be kept as pets. True, there has been attacks involving them, but not all Pit Bulls are bad. They were once a very respected and admired breed, being the face of America. Despite this, Pit Bulls now have a poor reputation because of the media, which makes them seem more violent than they really are. Because of that numerous people have developed a mistrust for Pit Bulls, when they actually are good dogs.
Pit Bulls were an important breed in the 1900’s to the 1960’s. They were the face of the US, a symbol of American pride. Their image was even used to recruit soldiers for World War 1. Pit Bulls were known as exceptional protectors and guardians. For example, a PIt Bull named Stubby once saved many lives. In Source #3, it states, “Stubby was the unofficial mascot of the 102nd Infantry Division. He once saved his entire platoon by warning them of a gas poison attack.” Stubby was also the first dog to receive army medals and became the inspiration behind the US Military’s K-9 corps. Therefore, Pit bulls were beloved dogs and was a meaningful part of history. …show more content…
The answer leads to media. The media is the cause of the fear about Pit Bulls. They created the impression that these dogs are harmful and makes the public believe that they’re the only dogs that attack. It states in Source #4, “Despite the fact that other breeds of dogs can and do attack people, these incidents go unmentioned, even at the local level.
