COD, a franchise that relies heavily on the concept of wars especially world war 2 is one of the top selling war based video games. Players are thrust into a war as soldiers in the front line where they have to fight along side comrades who they might have to watch die. Even if everything in history class is forgotten players will more likely remember whose side they were playing on and who they had to fight. Experiential learning works best for a lot of people. They need to experience things themselves or in this case virtually for them to better remember things versus getting facts from a textbook that may not be completely impartial. The games in this franchise are known for their realism from the sounds of guns to the use of equipment. As a gamer, it isn 't unusual for me to draw inspiration from my past exploits in various virtual worlds. Many days (and dare I say weeks) of my life have been spent in these often dystopian, problem-stricken worlds. While it 's understandable to associate an increase in violent activity with violent video games & media, it is apparent that the vast majority of advocates for harsher regulations on violent video games share…

Most parents of avid gamers believe their children are basically in solitary confinement which is an absurd remark. “Microsoft and Sony revolutionized social console gaming with Xbox Live and the Playstation Network.” (Adkins Kylie) These networks allow “confined” gamers to be able to communicate with anyone around the globe. This is not as effective as meeting them in person but at least gamers are communicating with other people and are learning social skills to help them communicate with other people in real life. An additional fact was retrieved from an article by Issues and Controversies which stated that “additionally, a recent review of research done by the American Psychological Association found that playing video games, even violent ones, may actually have positive effects on children by helping them vent their aggression in a harmless manner.” (“Violent Video Games” Issues and Controversies). Certain action video games have shown to improve reflexes and visual reaction…

It was also made clear that weapons as they advanced were a threat to humankind and that, “as long as they existed, he was living on borrowed time" (Clarke). In “2001: A Space Odyssey” the fear of war destroying the Earth and killing everyone on it with the use of advanced weaponry is addressed when, “a slumbering cargo of death” awakens and orbits the Earth.…
