It 's not perfect, that much is obvious but it 's possibly the most effective in giving a taste without sending impressionable 18 year olds onto the battlefield to lose limbs or suffer from other traumatic ailments of the mind. COD, a franchise that relies heavily on the concept of wars especially world war 2 is one of the top selling war based video games. Players are thrust into a war as soldiers in the front line where they have to fight along side comrades who they might have to watch die. Even if everything in history class is forgotten players will more likely remember whose side they were playing on and who they had to fight. Experiential learning works best for a lot of people. They need to experience things themselves or in this case virtually for them to better remember things versus getting facts from a textbook that may not be completely impartial. The games in this franchise are known for their realism from the sounds of guns to the use of equipment. Naturally it can 't 100% replicate true war experiences but it allows the players to be able to feel as though they are on the front line and with the first person point of view it isn 't hard for the player to become engaged in the story line.
