. The value of teams: An illustration of the value of teamwork given in the chapter was the military. The different medical teams that were able to work together in an efficient and timely manner to save the lives of wounded soldiers. Bringing those same principles to organizations that primarily made up of various groups. Many tasks are interdependent and need a level of coordination to be completed.

B. Different dilemmas of teams: Having to give up your independence and relying on the team for success. Making sacrifices and knowing that your individual action will not be the key in achieving success within the team. The term free rider refers to a person who benefits from the actions of the team but does not contribute.

Team Characteristics: Involves managers realizing the diversity, roles and size of their teams. Size of teams are important because teams need to be large enough to incorporate the diverse skills needed to complete a task. Demographic diversity has shown positive results on a team’s performance. For teams to be successful every member has to be aware of their individual roles to help the team accomplish the common goal.

E. Team Cohesiveness: An important aspect of team process is cohesiveness. Members of less cohesive teams are not as worried about the team 's welfare. High cohesiveness is looked at as an attractive feature of teams. Management support can help employee’s development cohesiveness among each other leading to more productivity.

F. Styles to handle conflict: Dominating style refers to quick decisive actions when faced with important issues. Avoiding style is used for more trivial issues or when a disruption would be costly to the team. Compromising is the balance between assertiveness and
