Bordone does choose to differ the depiction of his painting from Tintoretto, to show a more interesting scene that captures more of the drama associated with it. The painting Bordone creates is dramatic and captures what he believes to be the most important part of the bible story it depicts. This moment being the moment that Mary and Joseph burst into the scene to find their son, who has been missing for three days. I will be talking about the painting “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci. In this particular painting the artist really doesn’t use the Encaustic method. It looks likes da Vinci use the tempera technique because the painting has a certain glow or transparency to it. The painting looks like it was painted on a stone. Most artist back then use the tempera method on stone.…

While the Last Suppers painted by Leonardo and Tintoretto take place at the same time, the use of several composition techniques, most specifically light, place the prophet in different times. Leonardo shows the man before the crucifixion, while Tintoretto paints him as the prophet. The most clear example of how light is used to distinguish the man from the prophet is the halo. In Leonardo's fresco (1495-1498), Jesus and the disciples do not have heads ringed in the gold light that marks a saint. In stark contrast, Tintoretto’s Oil on canvas work (1592-1594) shows the disciples all with halos, and Jesus with one that illuminates the room.…

Europe was steadily gaining prosperity which meant that art of the highest quality was no longer confined to the royal court and a small circle of monasteries (Romanesque Art, 2014, Wikipedia.org). Although Romanesque art held to the Byzantine model of using icons, Gothic artists began using brighter colors, dimensions, and perspective in their pieces. Both art forms stayed true to religious subject matters but artists began testing animals as a subject matter and using light and shadows in their artwork. These changes would begin the paradigm shift into the art styles of the early Renaissance…

Although the durability of The Last Supper is flawed, the techniques used is astounding. Perspective as well as the placement of key figures is shown through the way that Jesus is in the middle and isolated while everyone else splitting into trios. Alongside these effects is the momentum of the painting and also the weight of every single…
