Welcome ladies and gentlemen! This is the Leonardo da Vinci art tour, but you already knew that since you had to pay and go through security and-- anyways, let’s move onto the tour! As we walk down to the Da Vinci area, I will first give basic background information about Leonardo da Vinci and then be taking questions. To get started, Leonardo is a Renaissance painter that painted some of the most famous works of art that the world ever saw. Not only that, but he was also an architect, engineer, mechanic, and technically a scientist. Although many creation of the last supper of Jesus have been created before and after Da Vinci’s, Da Vinci’s The Last Supper is a breathtaking example of the expertise and creativity of Da Vinci that is known throughout the world. People probably don’t even know that there are more paintings on the Last Supper! Leonardo started this in 1496 because of a commission. It took around 2 years and a seriously substantial amount of urgence for Da Vinci to finish it. He also did not use the usual fresco which uses wet plaster and a quick painting time frame, but instead, he used dry plaster and oil to increase his painting time frame. After only a couple of years, the paint was flaking off and deteriorating because of the dampness and moisture in the location. Today, the painting is barely Da Vinci’s since so little is left. In recent history, there are been many attempts to restore it, yet all have failed. Although the durability of The Last Supper is flawed, the techniques used is astounding. Perspective as well as the placement of key figures is shown through the way that Jesus is in the middle and isolated while everyone else splitting into trios. Despite that, all reactions and emotions are unified into the painting while still allowing everyone to be distinctly unique.
