Social media is a technological phenomenon that has shaped modern society. Applications like Twitter and Facebook are used by millions on a daily basis. People all over the world are constantly checking and updating statuses, even in third world countries. Even children are using social medias, although they can barely read. The reason for the popularity of social media is because of its usefulness in business advertisement, its ability to create unlikely relationships, and the instant contact it provides. One major factor for social media’s flourishment is the usage of social media, by businesses, as a way to entice customers. Businesses, locally and worldwide, have social media pages because there are benefits for both the consumer and the distributer. These pages are intended to catch the attention of potential customers who are browsing social media news feeds. Social media has allowed people to branch out and create relationships with people they wouldn't have been able to make contact with. Many people have used social media to pursue romantic relationships. In fact, there are many social medias specifically geared towards creating romantic relationships. These sites are directly correlated with the boom of social media. Dating is a huge part of life and social media is the biggest advancement on dating since the invention of handwritten letters. Furthermore, social media allows relationships to be built with people all over the world. People who are separated by thousands of miles can converse with each other as if they were neighbors.
