Nursing is not an ordinary eight-hour shift job where you can come and go. Instead the hospital will be where you will spend most of your time. Nursing is a very well respected career that is dominated by women and its main emphasis is on providing care. Nurses today are the largest group of health care provider in the United States. We have more than 3.2 million registered nurses. (Black, 2011, p. 2). Educational background is needed in nursing because hospitals and other facilities need to guarantee that the care being provided is highly efficient. Nursing is a very challenging job because it entitles the nurse to devote him or herself to their patients. Having one patient to take care of does not belittle the fact that nurses today have to look after six or eight patients in a daily basis. Nursing will give individuals a sense of achievement by opening many doors to great opportunities.

The characters in the film Wit are doctors, technicians, and nurses for a reason. Patients should come first, and again, I cannot emphasize that anymore. In the film, I found it surprising how Viviane was considered research. I don’t ever recall a patient being referred to as “research”. Patients are human beings. Patients have peoples just like everybody else. Also, the lack of communication with Vivian is what honestly got me more shocked. She is a patient with stage four metastatic ovarian cancer and the nurses and doctors have the edacity to continuously ask her “How are you doing? ” after performing several tests and treating her like she isn’t important. Vivian is a cancer patient who is going through extensive chemotherapy at a high dosage, never done before, and no one but Susan, her primary care nurse felt sympathy for her.
