On call 24 hours a day, waiting to be deployed to a war zone, military personnel do not get paid overtime. Civilians might see that military personnel do not worry about much of anything, which is true in some aspects. While, the veteran I waiting for his deployment to commence, he has limited time to enjoy the luxuries of life, therefore it might give the impression that military personnel are always having fun. Civilian would never be on call 24 hours a day and not get paid, and what company could afford to pay all their employees that type of salary (Brooks). Civilians have the luxury of going home at night or maybe, during the day, depending on your daily schedule, and sleep in the comforts of home. Planning a vacation every summer, year after year with the family is not even heard of in the military family. It is often taken for granted, being with your family every day and watching your children grow up. Military families find it difficult to raise families while on a deployment, and missing out on the important family decisions. It is hard to raise a child or to even discipline him from another country, depending on the child, he or she may not listen to you, and because they know that you are deployed and can’t do anything about it. Also, this can be very stressful on the military parent, not being able to be there when times are most critical, some children can and have suffered from the deployment of their parent.
