When people think of veterans, they picture them as strong and courageous. Neighbors may see them as protective and selfless or very tough for being able to stay away from home a long time. This is another reason workers think it is easy for abuse. Workers go after the veterans who can not move easily without help, this is the physical aspect of the traumatize. The reason, it makes it hard for veterans to go get help. The emotional trauma veterans go through is very scary for veterans. They feel they can not seek help. They want to keep their pride. They feel lonely like nobody is around to help. The workers that decide to abuse them know when to exactly take advantage.
There has been many cases of veteran abuse. Mrs. Kathleen M. Carter took her husband to a VA hospital in Arkansas. However, Kathleen said, “They waited for 5 hours to see a doctor.”(Lynn Carter) To back it a worse situation, the stretcher was covered in urine and feces. The workers were rude. They yelled at her and her husband. They treated Kathleen like she was dumb and did not know what she was doing. They got no respect while they were there. After the situation, they never got an apology. Congressman Steve, Senator John Boozman, and Senator Mark Pryor refused to investigate the abuse that went on that
