`With so much business in life these days, it is common to forget that our own everyday life is much different than that of those out fighting for our country. We often forget that not everyone in this country gets to see their families everyday and that often, our service men and women go weeks, even months, without seeing their loved ones, and more often than not, they miss birthdays, anniversaries, and even holidays, due to their commitment to keep this country free.
Many wonder why anyone would want to live a life where they rarely get to go home and see their families. I believe it is because they feel a sense of honor when fighting for their country, because they wish for this country to remain free, and above all else, because they want to keep their families, along with so many others safe and out of harm's way, and they know the only way to do that is to lay their own life …show more content…
Yet they wake up everyday, well aware of what the day may bring, and do what they have to to keep us at home free.

When my father was a young boy, his father left to fight the war in Vietnam, knowing very well that he may never see his family again. While he was fighting he suffered many gunshot wounds, one of which was through the hand. This was the least severe and because of the trauma he suffered, it is the only one he will talk about, and he rarely talks about it.
