On Sunday, June 21st, I went to see the Dallas Symphony Orchestra perform “The Music of John Williams and Hollywood’s Great Composers” at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco. The concert was held in the church’s worship room at 6:30pm. This was a great place for the DSO to perform because the audience and the orchestra were very close and, in a way, felt more personal. The show included fourteen pieces: “Overture to Captain Blood by Korngold, ‘Tara’ – A Short Poem for Orchestra from Gone with the Wind by Steiner, arr.…

It’s not typical for a teenager like myself to be caught watching a symphony. Due to this well-known stereotype, I was skeptical when I attended the Symphony of the Americas concert in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. However, much to my surprise I was entranced by the alluring symphony and atmosphere. The performance, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, paid tribute to both Italian and Hispanic composers by featuring music by Gioachino Rossini, Arturo Marquez, Gaetano Donizetti, and the legendary Ernesto Lecuona.…

Every day, I try to listen to a new piece of music. Whether it be a string group, unaccompanied choir, or even a percussion consort, I believe that by doing this, so much can be learned from just listening. About the mid-month of July, I came across this piece of music. I thought it was extremely fun and quirky at the same time! I had continued to listen to it, read some background information on the piece, and do a small amount of study on the work.…

Concert Report Two The concert performance given live that I have attended on Thursday April 20th, 2017 was an organ licentiate recital by Ian Guenette. It was held at the Redpath Hall, a building located on McTavish street. The Redpath Hall was first dedicated for a library building, but is now taken charge by the Schulich School of Music. The Hall is very charming with its high selling that contains thick dark brown carved wodden beams that covers the intire ceiling and gives warmth to the room.…

A perspective listener enjoys the sound of the music but is also critically aware of how it makes them feel and why and it also makes associations with the music whether it being from a feeling or a memory. Going to the concert I was listening with great concentration, trying to hear every aspect of the piece.…

New York Philharmonic is one of my favorite places to listen to the western classical music. I always have a great positive sense after a concert. To be honest with you, the idea of attending live events is really good and useful for every student. The goal of our educational system is to make people study not only their major material, but also be well rounded and can have a conversation on different topics in other fields of studies. Live musical assignment helps the students improve their knowledge by first learning the theory in the classroom and let use critical thinking ability later during the live musical…
