When attending a musical performance, there are different sets of rules that accompany certain types of concerts. Most of the time these rules are unspoken and typically general knowledge, with the exception of classical music concerts where pamphlets may be given out or picked up ahead of time. That being said, there are many limitations of how one should conduct his or herself at a performance. During a classical music concert, the general principle is to be polite and good mannered as to properly accompany the style of music. The dress code for such a concert will never be as formal as is for a classical concert. Patrons are encouraged to wear whatever they like; for the most part, casual dress is acceptable, but more formal dress may be preferred by some. Arrival time is not as prompt for these types of concerts, but if you are to arrive late, it is considered very rude to push your way to the front, as it is disrespectful towards people who arrived early to stand where they are. Considering the fact that there is not usually a seating arrangement, people are allowed to stand where they like. With openness such as this there comes many disadvantages; crowds may get too rowdy towards the front, shorter people may have their view blocked by someone taller who decided to stand in front of them, people who have had too much to drink, may all cause problems for other people attending the concert. While it is okay to jump up to the front gradually by moving up to empty spaces, it is not acceptable to push others out of the way. Food, but more often just drinks, are usually available for purchase from a bar at the back of a concert. Talking, singing, and cheering are all acceptable during concerts, and are sometimes even encouraged by the
