Key issue addressed in this article is the lack of good young leaders that are coming to the workforce post higher education and are ready to seize the moment by take charge. In part the article blames the educational system for the inability to harness the qualities such as entrepreneurial spirit, innovative ideas, formulation of value proposition, execution skills etc. in new graduates. Furthermore, article recognizes that leadership skills cannot be learned from a book but rather need to be nurtured and developed by real examples.

For example: case suggest that cultural building skills are one of the pinnacle traits a leader must have. Although this research does a good job in explaining what is cultural-building skills it is important to mention that during our course we have immersed ourselves much deeper in this subject. Perhaps most notable example of cultural-building skills stems from our lecture on strengths and weaknesses of an individual and how weaknesses are not necessarily a bad trait to have, but rather what makes a person diverse and with an ability to offer a different approach to real world problems. If we as a society lack leaders it is because we ourselves enable and promote fear “unless you follow the rules, tsk-tsk”. My suggestion is: stop forcing a fish to fly and welcome errors! Alexander Fleming accidentally created penicillin, Percy Spenser accidentally created the microwave this list is extensive so why do we have to generalize individuals and only than present them with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Well the question is what makes a good leader? And answer is complex but simple: freedom. Freedom to do what individuals are passionate about, freedom to allow errors freedom to become part of human history. One could argue that this world has many options and opportunities, but forget that as humans we created these opportunities thus, these artificially created opportunities and options are the creation of someone else. Yes, we made the cage bigger, but eventually we will run out of space and will need to add more space yet again being in a cage. A leader without the hope of being free will never be a leader, so let us destroy the mental cages societal norms and illusions and ideas of what makes one great and allow for an individual to choose own path.
