Public Engagement In The Political Process

Decent Essays
Hello Professor Krispin,

I have two questions about the overall research project in this class. My question is that, am I supposed to give a general overview of the importance of public engagement in the political process overall? Or, am I supposed to connect my research project within the political organization that I am currently associated with?

Because in the Research Statement Assignment, I noted the political organization that I currently a member of- I apologize for that if was not supposed to do that.

I want to make sure that I am understanding the research project for this course, because I am kind lost in a sense.

In the writing guide, Writing a Research Paper in Political Science, the author, Professor Lisa A. Baglione, illustrates the proper way to establish a research question, write a literature review, and present a polished research paper. Using Baglione’s checklist for each step of a research paper, I will evaluate the effectiveness of a research paper written by a previous student. First, I will evaluate the effectiveness of the research question by using the checklist provided by Baglione. According to Baglione, it is crucial that a research question is short, to the point, and a feasible task to complete in the assignment’s allotted time. I would argue that the author’s research question, a case study in the decision-making during the Yom Kippur…

In his presidential address to the American Political Science Association Robert D. Putnam challenges his colleagues in the discipline of political science to meet the obligations of a much overlooked aspect of discourse within the discipline; engaging the public. The past century has witnessed many evolutions throughout the fields of social science. Most notably is the scholarly and academic concentration on promoting the legitimacy of social science research via the incorporation of scientific methodology. Central to Robert Putnam’s concerns in the article are what he considers a scholarly preoccupation with scientific analyses and rigor, while ignoring the relevance of political inquiry driven by practical considerations. Specifically,…
