The Importance of Football to Americans Being active is an important part of everyday life. Throughout our lifetime we can see how being healthy effects us. One way to be healthy or active is to exercise, and a good way to do this is to play football. Surprisingly one of the most important past-times to Americans is football. I will discuss in the next brief paragraphs, the game, safety elements, as well a some benefits of playing football. The Game Football is a game that was derived from rugby. The first American football game was played on November 6th, 1869 between two teams, Rutgers and Princeton. The game actually became popular in the 1880 's. The game has developed much since then, for example, going from not being allowed to carry the ball with your hands, to having to do so to score a touchdown. Football season often begins in the fall. The main goal for each professional team is to make it to the Super Bowl, or championship game. The Super Bowl is the most watched televised program in America. You must have very good grades to play college football. If you don 't you will not play. Your education is very important to the teachers so your grades would come before football. You must be at least a B average in order to continue. People all over America treat football as a religion.
