Before publishing, educational research must undergo a careful review from every angle. Analyzing the article thoroughly for validity and the ability to be replicated is an important process to ensure the reliability of the research content. Researchers have created guidelines to assist in evaluating educational researcher that covers to following; Identifying the research question, research design must match research question, examining how the study was conducted, finally detecting rival explanations for the results (Lauer, 2006, p. 41-52).

The guidelines previously mentioned will be used to evaluate research review by Dr. Darling Hammond and Dr. Richardson on the importance of professional development (Darling-Hammond & Richardson, 2009).

Due to lack of experimental research design, the research design for this article would fall under descriptive research design. The explanation of each review research on the article does not provide a group onto which the results can be compared. It only states that a group of teacher attended professional development over the summer and due to the hours they spend and content of the workshops, they saw an increase in student’s achievement. Equally, important was the findings of the research under the title Design: active, continued learning. This section can be identified as an experimental research design. Once again, maintaining the topic, but having two groups in which they will compare the hours of professional development to student achievement (Lauer, 2006,). The results were encouraging, the most hours’ teachers spend on sustain, and intense professional development saw an increase in their student achievement. On the other hand, the educators who attended fewer professional development hours indicated that there was no improvement in student achievement (Darling-Hammond & Richardson, 2009, p. …show more content…
In the case of this article, what is being observed is the kind of professional learning opportunities that can improve instruction on student’s achievement. Furthermore, the operational definition of the study would be the professional learning opportunities for teachers improve student’s achievement. A treatment fidelity of the research would determine if everything went as planned in the studied. In the analysis, the treatment did go as planned. Teachers took part of the professional development according to the information provided by the research. Teacher engaged in actively learning the new math and science curriculum, they engaged in thoughtful discussions and evaluated student 's work (Lauer, 2006). Moreover, researchers need to distinguish between qualitative data and quantitative data. The research review covers mostly qualitative data. It provides a summary of the research’s findings. However, it does not provide detail research information to satisfy further inquiry (Darling-Hammond & Richardson,
