So, according to an ancient prediction of the Maya’s, the world is going down in 2012. But best case scenario: we will still be here 20 years from now, how will that world look like, How will fashion look like in 20 years from now? In my opinion the future of fashion and the earth in general will be more efficient, greener, socially better and will have an entire new mindset on how we look at and consume fashion.

For years now, designers have looked at the past for inspiration and I think we are on a verge now of change. The future of fashion will stop looking back and start looking forward and finding new, undiscovered sources of inspiration. Because I believe the fashion industry will completely change its mindset towards an endless and not abusive industry that respects nature and which is not only obsessed with beauty, sex and youth anymore. This mindset will include an end to fast passing trends and fast fashion. I think that fast fashion will not be able to survive in this new mindset. The impact of fast fashion on the environment is too substantial to ignore. This system cannot and will not be able to survive. Nowadays the fashion system is based on speed and the strategy ‘sell more for less’. We will have to learn to appreciate and enjoy our pieces of clothing again. We will no longer think in ways of the more we consume, the happier we’ll become. In 20 years from now, it may or may not be possible to have a T-shirt that does not need to be washed through growing technology. So we will not need 30 T-shirts. Rather buy one of 50, than 10 of 5.
Nowadays, clothes cost less than they ever did before. Which basically goes against all logical laws of economics. This system is unsustainable, because it comes from the basic ideas that all natural resources are unlimited. So future fashion will probably be
