Browsing through other’s pages, images, and profiles causes the minds of teens to wander endlessly until the page cannot refresh any longer. 14% of the 30% of teens who use social media, have and use a Twitter. About 15% of the users visit the site to entertain, communicate with others, or to be amused (“Twitter Use”). Spending an excessive amount of time on Twitter leads to a decrease in what teens should actually be focused on (Prasla). Speaking from personal experience, I am aware that Twitter is made up of many false advertisements and inappropriate information, yet I still hang onto every last word of every last tweet. If i didn 't do this, I would feel out of the loop without the “knowledge” of certain situation. The constant need for Twitter and what it has to offer is causing teens to overlook what is important, proper knowledge. Although Twitter is informative and beneficial in many ways, it might be feeding us too much false information. Teens tend to rely on Twitter as a news source, therefore using it at all times in a diverse manner. Yes, Twitter has proven to be reliable in a few measures, but it has also been known to give information to users that they believe is correct when in reality it is the exact opposite. While many people are aware of all dangers and problems that come with Twitter, there are still many young, naive teenagers that are like baby sea turtles going into the ocean for the first time. Twitter is a completely new world to them where they are now able to be informed about any and every topic, have a light form of entertainment and connect with people in a different way. Once they become accustomed to the ways of Twitter, they will be drowned with the terrible unintended effects that Twitter has to offer. 55% of these teenagers will “share personal information…unknowingly with people they don 't know” (Riman).
