In 2013, 3,154 people were killed and an estimated additional 424,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers (“Cell Phone Use”). For drivers 15-19 years old involved in fatal crashes, 15 percent of the distracted drivers were distracted by the use of cell phones. Texting while driving causes about 1.6 million crashes a year (“Cell Phone Use”). 1 in 4 car crashes are caused by texting while driving (“Cell Phone Use”). Also texting and driving is more dangerous than drunk driving. People are distracted whenever they drive and the most common distraction is texting. Even though some people don’t think their phones are a distraction to them, they still use them any way and they don’t keep their eyes on the road. Did you know that April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month? Out of all of the age ranges, teenager’s text and drive the most and they are the most distracted. There are several stories on the internet and the news about people especially teenagers who are texting and driving. Even pedestrians are watching the road more because they don’t know if the driver is paying attention to the road or not. I am arguing that texting while driving should be illegal in every state because we would have less accidents and more people on this earth today.
How dangerous is texting while driving? Because text messaging requires visual, manual, and cognitive attention from the driver, it is by far one of the most alarming distractions.…
