Today’s society contains the growing need for organ transplants. “According to the Department of Health and Human Service (DHHS) more than 2,000 names are added to the national waiting list for organ donations every month, which already has a waiting list of over 100,000 patients.” (Beshears, 2014, page 1). This ever growing high amount of human organs needed has resulted in the price of organs going up. Individuals are so desperate as to pay almost anything to save their life and this has caused those participating in sales in the black market to act in regards to this and take advantage of such a money making situation. As obvious as it seems, human organs aren’t something just found on the street. Well actually they are. They are found in people. We need organs to survive, it’s just how our body works. The only time a human organ becomes available; someone has passed away and has signed a waiver stating that they want to be an organ donor. The article that displays an instance such as this is an event that many fell victim to one individual’s act of greed motivated tendencies. In March of 2014 an individual named Manuel Plancarte Gaspar was arrested and convicted with multiple acts of murder. This 34 year old man was accused of murdering multiple children and collecting their organs for sale on the black market. The children were reported to have been “from a Mexico City school and were on school trip to the beach when they were kidnapped” (Hastings, 2014, page 1). Manuel Plancarte Gaspar was not just reported to have been the acting criminal in this case, but a high ranking member of the drug cartel in Mexico as well. Money was Manuel Plancarte Gaspar’s motivation to commit these acts of crime, and he did anything to get more of it. He was born with greed that he let consume him until he would eventually do whatever physically possible to get what he was after. When discussing illegal organ sales, it’s important to understand different factors involved with a situation such as this. Of the numerous words within my vocabulary, saying that greed is the best word that relates to this topic is safe to say. Greed is a term we all understand. We experience its impact every day and that’s why this word demonstrates such a powerful meaning
