Over the past few years, texting and driving has become a major issue all across the country. Texting and driving is the cause of numerous amounts of deaths and injuries and is a huge distraction for drivers. Many people believe they can get away with sending a “quick” text message while their vehicle is in motion, however that is not true. In the long run, they are just increasing their risk of being in a car accident. Research has proven that texting and driving is worse than drunk driving in many ways. Texting and driving is a great visual distraction that takes your eyes off the road and can cost you your life, or the lives of other people. Texting and driving can result in you spending the rest of your life in a cold, small, six by eight foot cell, isolated from the outside world. These are some of the many reasons why texting and driving is the most dangerous thing you can do while being in a vehicle. Texting while driving costs thousands of innocent Americans their lives every day. This number has steadily increased as texting has become increasingly popular. Texting and driving makes people 23 times more likely to get into a car crash than a non-texting driver because they are distracted by their phone. When a person texts and drives, their focus comes off the road and their vehicle. This results in them focusing all of their attention on their phone.
