Teamwork And Collaboration In Healthcare

Teamwork and collaboration are two very important aspects of healthcare. There are numerous people involved in a caring for single patient every day. There are nurse aids, nurses, doctors, specialist; such as repertory and nutrition, and many more. These health professionals along with the patients family and the patient themselves make up a large number of people in which communication needs to be kept open and accurate. Each of these people play an important role in the patients care and thus communication between them is crucial. Without teamwork and collaboration the quality of care a patient receives would be significantly diminished. During my clinical day at the hospital, I contributed to the healthcare team in a variety of ways. It was my responsibility to practice care and assessments on a single patient. The nurse on my wing was taking care of multiple patients with little help and as a result was extremely busy. One way I contributed to the healthcare team was completing the patient assessment, tanking his vitals, and passing medicine for the patient as well as charting it all. The nurse was trying to figure out why a procedure had been canceled for her patient and why a different one had been ordered, but not yet scheduled. The reasons were not in the patients chart, but after she had taken the time to talk with the patients wife she found exactly everything she needed to know. The nurse was very busy with having so many patients to care for, but when she walked into the room, she didn’t let the patient, nor his family, see that. She presented herself in a way that showed the patient, she cared about him and was willing to take the time to listen. Her willingness to take the time out to listen to his wife helped in getting her answers as well made as the patients and family feel at
