Success in the role leadership at any level, is measured by the performance the Team overall. An effective team leader should acknowledge that developing a high performing Team involves many skills, people management and effective use of leadership methods. Being able to influence motivation, performance and the drive to achieve high performance from the team.
One of the most important part is aligning the focus of the team in a way that will enable, rather than disable, them to achieve their goals. A high morale amongst staff job satisfaction will affect motivation and performance.

New technologies, high demand for services, a change in patient demographics and new management all have had an impact on these loyal staff. Morale has a huge effect of productivity which in turn impacts on the success of the practice. In his book ‘Motivating employees for dummies’ (2001) Max Messmer states that in today’s rapidly changing works force you find that ‘Aging baby boomers make up a significant portion of the work force’ with ‘generation Xer’s in senior management roles’ this can be said of our organisation, both management and GPs are younger than much of the workforce.
The ability to adapt your leadership style to situations will change from task to task, your success to various tasks will depend on the approach of the style of leadership. The Hersey and Blanchard (1970s) model is a situational leadership model which proposes that there is not a singular leadership style, that successful leaders adjust their styles based on "follower maturity." Follower maturity is set by the ability and confidence of the team they are attempting to lead.
